How does Boutique Whitening work?

Here at Sohal Dental Practice we offer different teeth whitening techniques. An increasingly popular choice is the Boutique Whitening system. We understand that dental treatments can be embarrassing as an adult, but this is discreet so no one will have to know that you are being treated or undergoing a treatment (unless you want to tell them!), until you have achieved your desired result. The Boutique Whitening system involves wearing a set of trays on your teeth that hold the whitening gel. A 3-dimensional scan of your teeth is taken to create your tailor-made trays, so they will be accurately fitting, thus comfortable to wear. The gels are formulated with either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, or a combination of both. Hydrogen peroxide is an effective oxidising agent and works by oxidising the molecules that have caused the discolouration of your teeth, and breaking them down into smaller molecules which are less visible.The day whitening gels only have to be worn for upto 2 hours a day, whilst the night treatment is to be used overnight whilst you sleep. You may notice immediate change, but mostly it takes a week or two to start noticing results and you can continue treatment until you have reached the saturation point, where your teeth will not whiten any further or until you have reached the level that you are happy with.
